What is SEER?
When it comes to air conditioners its measured by SEER which stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio. Basically the higher the rating the more efficent your unit will run. Equipment ranges from 14 SEER - 23 SEER depending on type. The basic size is the 14 SEER we typically reccomend going with the 16 SEER because it will save you money during the life of the unit. If the unit is running at a higher efficiency its using less power and energy therefore its saving money on electric each month. We also include a 10 year labor warranty with our 16 SEER Amana equipment. Meaning within the first 10 years all of your parts and labor will be covered. Thats worth the extra intial investment in itself! If you want more information on SEER and what would be recommended for your home we do offer free estimates!
How often should I change my filters?
This question can be a little tricky because again there is many variables that come into play when knowing how often to change your filters. For example a person with allergies and 3 dogs would need to change their air filters more then someone who lives alone. Also it depends what type of filters you use. We recommend as a standard to atleast check your air filters every 30 days. A clogged filter can block airflow and cause issues with your HVAC system.
Why is my AC unit freezing up?
Is your AC frozen? The first thing you need to do is cut your system off so it can begin thawing. There could be a few different things causing this issue. Before calling a techinican we always reccomend checking your filters. As we have mentioned before clogged filters can block air flow and in some cases cause the unit to start freezing. If this doesnt fix the issue its time to call for help. The most common cause besides clogged filters that we find is a leak in the sytem. A lot of times this will be in one of the coils or the line. However there are many other things that could cause this issue so always get a professionals opinion. Our service calls start at just $65.
Why is my strip heat coming on?
If you have auxiliary hit it will automatically kick on when the temperature outside gets to low and your unit is not able to keep up. For example if its 30 degrees outside and you set your unit on 74 your aux heat will kick on to help get your home to the right temperature. However if your strip heat is constantly running there may be a issue with your furnace and this can become costly with electric bills. If you notice any of these issues we always recommend calling a proffesional to come out and access.
